The story of Snow White is one of the most famous fairy tales told. It's most well-know variant is a German version retold by The Brothers Grimm in 1812, titled “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.” This fairy tale is often assumed to have originated from the fairy tale Snow White and Red Rose, which was also retold by The Brothers Grimm. However, they are very different stories that have separate origins – the only commonality between the two tales is the main character who is named Snow White in both fairy tales.
Walt Disney's animated version of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was made in 1937.
In the Disney version, Snow White with her creamy white skin, red stained lips and ebony hair delights young girls everywhere, and is truly one of the fairest princesses in the land. The story of Snow White begins when her evil stepmother counsels the magic mirror, which tells her she is no longer the fairest in the land. Snow White has surpassed her as the most beautiful.
The stepmother immediately plans to rid herself of Snow White, out of intense jealousy. The huntsman put in charge of Snow White's death is unable to accomplish his responsibility. He sees that Snow White is a sweet and lovely girl. Snow White runs deep into the forest to escape the huntsman.
She stumbles upon a small cottage with tiny furniture and soon discovers that seven dwarfs live there. She finds them very charming and decides to stay. Snow White begins cooking and cleaning for them and gathering food from the forest. Snow White and the seven dwarfs care for one another like a family.
Upon hearing that Snow White is still alive, her evil stepmother drinks a potion and transforms into an unrecognizable, old lady. She visits Snow White at the dwarf's cottage and hands her a delicious, red, poison apple to eat. With one bite, Snow White collapses. The dwarfs chase the step-mother away and she is crushed by a large boulder.
The Prince finds her lying in the forest in a glass coffin, where the dwarfs placed her to rest. With a simple kiss, she wakes from her deep sleep. The story of Snow White ends with her and the Prince riding away to live happily ever after.
