Beauty and the Beast story is a fairytale filled with magic spells and enchanting characters. This story has a wonderful lesson, as it teaches young children to look beyond a person's appearance in order to really know someone. First published as a French fairy tale in 1740, there are numerous versions of this traditional fairy tale across Europe.

 

In 1991, Disney produced an animated version in film of the Beauty and the Beast. In the beginning of this now-classic tale, Belle escapes her common town and impending marriage to a pompous Gaston. She finds herself running through the woods being chased by wolves. A looming creature rescues her and whisks her to safety in a castle. The creature reveals himself to her and she is shocked to see a large, sharp-toothed, hairy beast.

 

She stays in the castle, and over time develops a relationship with the spell-bound talking objects in the house, such as a candlestick and tea pot. After a while, she sees the Beast in a different light, and even finds herself falling in love with him. Gaston comes to save her from the Beast, much to Belle's dismay. A fight ensues, and the Beast is injured. Gaston tumbles off the house, not to be seen again.

 

Belle rushes to the Beast's side and gives him a kiss. Her kiss breaks the spell and the Beast is transformed back into a Prince. At the same time, the talking objects morph back into their original positions of royal human wait staff. Beauty and the Beast are married and she becomes Princess Belle.
